Leeds Market – World Feast Event
Leeds Food Festival opened with the World Feast Event, which was held on Briggate in Leeds City Centre on Sunday the 26th May 2013. The event started at 10.00am and was designed to celebrate the diversity of food in the City.
The event focused on three main areas which were local community, street performance and foods from around the world.
As part of the local community section, Leeds-List.com produced a Leeds Food & Drink Guide Book which gave an in depth review of all the best places in Leeds to eat and drink. The book was on sale for two pounds, with one pound of the purchase price going to a homeless charity.
The second section was World Foods, this was designed to celebrate the diversity of cuisine that is available in Leeds. Representatives of different communities attended the event to present food from their countries.
Alongside the food aspect, there were a number of street food proprietors selling authentic Fish & Chips, African spit-roast, Turkish Cooking and Sandinista with their BBQ wagon.
The third section was that of entertainment, with some fantastic street performers, including Morris Dancers, Steel Drums and Zulu Dancers.
Due to the great success of the event, World Feast is set to continue on a monthly basis and will be launched on the last Sunday of every month.
