FC Halifax Town 7 v 0 Scarborough Athletic (Pre-Season Friendly)
FC Halifax started the season with a bang, as they put seven past Northern East Counties Premier League side Scarborough Athletic at the Shay. Despite the scoreline Scarborough played their part in an entertaining pre-season friendly.
It took just twelve minutes for Halifax to break the deadlock, following a left wing cross Alex Johnson took advantage of a mistake in the Scarborough defence to volley home from eight yards.
FC Halifax continued to dominate the game and created a number of excellent chances, Alex Johnson went close with a curling effort from 20 yards, before Lee Gregory hit the Scarborough crossbar with fierce drive from outside the area.
On the twenty third minute, Alex Johnson scored his and Halifax’s second goal, when he ran onto a ball that split the Scarborough defence, Johnson lost his balance but some how managed to slot the ball past Jason White in the Scarborough goal.
The referee then stopped the game for a few minutes to allow the players to take some drinks as temperatures reached the high twenties.
The game restarted with a Scarborough goal kick, which landed at the feet of Adam Smith who beat one defender before passing to Lee Gregory, who slotted the ball into the far left side of the Scarborough goal.
Scarborough did play some nice passing football and showed that in their own division they will be a strong force this season, however on the day the gulf in class showed as FC Halifax were the much stronger side all round.
Just before half time, Halifax scored their fourth goal of the game when new signing Marc Richards headed home from a corner, as he out jumped two defenders and the Scarborough goalkeeper.
FC Halifax made eight chances at the interval, but unfortunately for Scarborough it had little effect on the game, as Halifax continued to press forward in search of more goals in the second half.
Kevin Holsgrove made an instant impact, scoring twice in five minutes after coming off the bench. His first goal came as he out ran the Scarborough defence, before lobbing the ball over goalkeeper White into an empty goal.
Holsgrove second goal, was a fierce shot from the edge of the area which hit the back of the net. Halifax rounded off the afternoon with a second goal for Marc Roberts, who again headed home from a corner to score FC Halifax seventh goal.
This was a good strong solid performance from FC Halifax Town against a good passing footballing side Scarborough Athletic, however Halifax supporters should remember that despite the scoreline, Scarborough are currently playing 2 league levels below them.
