Guiseley AFC 2 v 2 Huddersfield Town (Pre-Season Friendly)
This game proved to be the classic pre-season friendly, mainly due to the fact the Huddersfield Town promoted the game as a first team friendly, then sent a reserve and youth team to Guiseley’s Nethermoor ground.
Huddersfield Town had the first clear chance on goal, when Danny Carr broke through the Guiseley defence, only to see Steve Drunch save his one-on-one opportunity.
Five minutes later Drunch made an excellent one handed save, when he tipped Kallum Higginbottom’s effort over the bar. Despite the first half being more of a midfield battle, the last fifteen minutes produced two goals.
Guiseley took the lead following a poor headed back pass from Liam Ridealgh, his header fell short, Phil Marsh continued his run and latched onto the ball, before lobbing it over the advancing Ian Bennett who could do nothing but watch the ball hit the back of the net.
The second half followed much the same pattern as the first, with both sides trying to win the midfield battle. There was also a number of changes on both side with Guiseley make eight second half subs.
Guiseley again took the lead on seventy-nine minutes from the penalty spot as Phil Marsh sent Ian Bennett the wrong way to make it 2-1.
This time it took Huddersfield just six minutes to bring the scores level, Guiseley born Jordan Sinnott, hit a 25 yard shot that left Jacob Giles in the Guiseley rooted to the spot.
Huddersfield came close to taking the win in the final minute, but Danny Ellis made a spectacular clearance to clear from under his own bar to ensure the game finished in a draw.
