Bradford City 3 v 0 Accrington Stanley (Development Squad Friendly)

Bradford City this afternoon entertained Accrington Stanley at Valley Parade in a development squad friendly.  The game was arranged to give Phil Parkinson’s squad a useful run-out.

Bradford City included a number of first team players, along side some of the apprentices and a couple of trialists, including Jordan Gele.

City were the stronger of the two teams and after about fifteen minutes took the lead through a trialist, who attacked down the left wing before cutting inside the Accrington penalty area to score.

Accrington then had a chance of their own following a foul on Shay McCartan.  The resulting free-kick fully tested Connor Ripley in the City goal, who had to be at full stretch to tip McCartan’s effort over the bar.

Bradford then increased their lead, when Alan Connell fired home a free-kick from the edge of the Accrington box, to give City a two goal lead at the interval.

The second half continued in much the same vein as the first, with Luke Oliver and Matt Taylor solid at the back and Ricky Ravenhill leading the team from midfield.

Around the hour mark, Bradford started to make a number of changes bringing on Nathan Curtis, Niall Heaton, Oliver McBurnie and Calum Hepworth, they replaced Jordan Gele, Luke Oliver, Alan Connell and the trialist.

Before being replaced, Alan Connell scored his second goal of the game after about seventy minutes following an excellent run and cut back by the trialist, Connell was unmarked to score from about 12 yards.

The game finished 3-0 to Bradford City and manager Phil Parkinson will have taken a number of positives from the game.

All four apprentices played well and contributed to the game, Alan Connell got on the score sheet twice and the game allowed the manager to make some decisions about the two players on trial.
