Skipton Ladies 0 v 4 Middleton Park (West Riding League)
Skipton Ladies returned to action this weekend when they entertained Middleton Park ladies at a very wet and muddy Deman Stadium.
It was very much a game of two half’s with Middleton Park starting the stronger of the two teams, the visitors controlled the first half an hour as Skipton struggled to get out of their own half.
Middleton Ladies defended well and made a some excellent forward runs which resulted in a large number of corners, however the visitors failed to take advantage of the corners or their possession.
The pressure finally told on fifteen minutes, when Louise Evans out ran the Skipton defence before shooting from the edge of the box passed a helpless Georgia Midgley in the Skipton goal to make it 1-0.
Shortly after the opening goal, Middleton Park finally made one of their corners count, when a near post corner was attacked by Louise Evans but her header hit the far post. Unfortunately the rebound hit Skipton’s Alex Chew on the head before crossing the line for an own goal, to make the score 2-0.
After about thirty-five minutes, Middleton scored their third goal when Carla Belk chased onto a long ball over the top of the Skipton defence, before chipping the ball over Georgia Midgley into the Skipton goal to make it 3-0.
Skipton then started to get more involved in the game with Rebecca Holt putting in some excellent tackles in midfield and Louise Forster making some excellent runs with ball. However Middleton Park added a fourth five minutes before half time from Sophie Stirling.
In the second half, Skipton Ladies held their own and battled well to keep the score at 4-0. Rebecca Holt and Alex Chew both had an excellent shot at goal well saved by the Middleton Park goalkeeper.
In the end it was another hard working display by Skipton Ladies who fought hard in difficult conditions.
