Skipton Town Ladies 4 v 0 Crossley Ladies (Pre-Season Friendly)
Skipton Town Ladies continued their pre-season campaign against Crossley Ladies at Engine Shed Lane, in a game which saw the return of Alex Chew and Bex Holt, there was also an excellent performance from Leanne Farrell who scored a well taken hat-trick.
It was the home side who took control of this match from the first to the last minute, with some quality passing moves and excellent finishing. Skipton started the game a little sloppy in the first fifteen minutes with some poor first touches that gave away possession, however the teams second half performance was outstanding.
Skipton opened the scoring midway through the first half, an excellent ball from midfield found Leanne Farrell, who ran through the Crossley defence before slotting the ball passed the on rushing Crossley goalkeeper, to give Skipton a 1-0 lead.
Amy Green, Bex Holt, Candice McKane and Louise Forster were now controlling the match from midfield with Leanne Farrell causing problems for the Crossley defence.
Just after the half hour mark, Louise Forster broke free inside the Crossley area following an excellent pass from Candice McKane but her shot from a tight angle was well saved by the Crossley goalkeeper.
On forty minutes, Skipton extended their lead, when Leanne Farrell collected the ball before making an excellent run down the right wing and cutting into the Crossley penalty area, she then cut the ball back to Laura Stafford who put the ball into an empty goal from five yards to give Skipton a 2-0 half-time lead.
The second half started with Skipton Ladies putting more pressure on the Crossley defence, Skipton were out playing their opponents in all area’s of the pitch. There quick passing and one touch football lead to a number of efforts on the Crossley goal.
On fifty-one minutes, Candice McKane went close to extending Skipton’s lead when she got onto the end of a Louise Forster cross, although her header beat the Crossley goalkeeper it was cleared off the goal line by a Crossley defender.
Just after the hour mark, Leanne Farrell added her second and Skipton’s third goal of the game following an excellent run down the right wing byCandice McKane, her cross went across the six yard box to Farrell, who tapped the ball into an empty goal to give Skipton a 3-0 lead.
In the final ten minutes, Leanne Farrell scored the fourth goal of the game to complete a well taken hat-trick and also to take the player of the match award. This was an excellent team performance and a great 4-0 victory for the club.
