Skipton Town Ladies 1 v 5 Middleton Park Ladies (Pre-Season Friendly)
Middleton Park Ladies arrived at Deman Stadium to face Skipton Town Ladies in their final pre-season match of the summer. Skipton were once again without a number of key players including Georgia Midgley, Hatty Midgley, Alex Chew and Bex Holt.
In the absences of first choice goalkeeper Georgia Midgley, Skipton Town handed a debut to under 15 goalkeeper Lauren Halliday who made some outstanding saves throughout the game.
Skipton Town started the game in the same way as they finished the last match against Crossley Ladies, controlling the game with some excellent well timed passing and smart movement off the ball.
However despite all the possession and pressure from Skipton Town it was Middleton Park Ladies who had the first two real efforts at goal.
The first effort followed an excellent one-two at the edge of the Skipton box which left the Middleton forward clean through one on one with Halliday, but the Skipton keeper produced an outstanding save.
The second effort came after Skipton’s Jess Ball was tackled inside her own box leaving the Middleton centre forward on the edge of the six yard box with a clear shot at goal. Halliday came off her line to dive at the feet of the forward to produced another outstanding one on one save to block the shot.
After thirty minutes, Leanne Farrell collected the ball just inside the Middleton half before running at the Middleton defence and firing an excellent shot into the bottom right corner of the goal to give Skipton a 1-0 lead.
The second half was like watching two different teams as Middleton Park dominated the whole forty-five minutes, their first effort at goal came just seven minutes after the restart but once again Lauren Halliday saved Town by tipping a fierce shot over the crossbar.
On fifty-five minutes Middleton scored an equalising goal after some poor defending from Skipton allowed the opponents to score from five yards out without a single tackle being made to make the score 1-1.
Just two minutes after getting back into the game, Middleton took the lead following a corner from the left-hand side. The ball fell to a Middleton player in the six yard box but her shot was well saved by Halliday, who could only palm the ball across the area for the Middleton right-winger tap in the rebound and make it 2-1.
Middleton Park extended their lead even further on seventy minutes when Skipton lost possession on the right wing and the Middleton left winger out ran the defence before chipping a ball into the Town six yard box for the midfield runner to head into an empty goal for a 3-1 lead.
The best goal of the afternoon came in the eighty first minute from just outside the Skipton penalty area, the Middleton central midfield found space and unchallenged she sent an excellent lob into the top left-hand corner of the goal to make it 4-1.
Middleton added a fifth goal in the last minute of the game when a shot from the left-hand side of the six yard box went under the body of Lauren Halliday and into the net to make the final score 5-1 to Middleton Park Ladies.
