Tom Heaton Extends Clarets Contract
England International goalkeeper Tom Heaton has today committed his future to Burnley Football Club by signing a new contract that will keep him at Turf Moor until June 2018.
Heaton enjoyed a superb debut season in the Barclays Premier League, keeping ten clean sheets for the Clarets and became the first player to be called up for England since 1974.
Last season ended with Heaton being voted as Players’ Player of the season by his Clarets comrades. The England international stopper, whose family hails from the Burnley area, was delighted to extend his stay at somewhere he now considers his footballing home.
Speaking about his contract extension Tom Heaton said: “I’m very pleased as I have had two great years here so far, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing for this club. It’s another three year deal and this has felt like my home.
I really love playing for the manager and the staff, particularly the goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer who I have improved under and I’m really excited for the times ahead. I feel like I’m getting better all the time and that is vital for me and I want to keep doing that.
We were disappointed about being relegated but the way we went forward with that means we can take the momentum into this season and push for an immediate return to the Premier League.
I had a taste of the Premier League last year and that gives you the hunger to get back and I want to be doing that with Burnley Football Club. It’s vital that I’ll be playing football week in, week out as I had a few times in my early days where I spent time on loan.
It was a great foundation at Manchester United but it got frustrating when I wasn’t playing and I made the decision early on in my career to always be trying to play. That is what I’ve done over time and it’s important that I stay here and keep moving things forward.”
