Clarets sign Renny Smith from Arsenal
Burnley Football Club have today confirmed the signing of former Arsenal teenager Renny Smith on a three-year contract. The Austrian midfielder can also play in defence will join the Clarets development squad for the coming season.
After leaving Chelsea, Smith attracted interest from both Manchester City and Liverpool before opting to sign at Arsenal. The Austrian youth international is looking forward to progressing through the ranks at Turf Moor after a brief trial period with the club.
Speaking about signing for the Clarets Renny Smith said, “I got a call from Burnley to say they were interested in me and they said to come along for a week, I played in the game against Sheffield FC and after the game they said they were happy with my performance.
It’s great to be here, as Burnley are a team that want to get back to the Premier League and hopefully in future years I can add something to the squad.”
Despite being born in Epsom, Smith has represented Austria at youth level after qualifying through his grandfather. He was called up for three games against Denmark, Hungary and Switzerland after being spotted in an Arsenal youth game.
