Arfield Set For International Debut
Burnley Football Club midfielder Scott Arfield looks finally set to become a full international with Canada. Arfield is eligible for Canada through his father who was born in Toronto.
Despite being capped by Scotland at Under 19, 21 and B level, he has been consistently overlooked by Scotland manager Gordan Strachan and is still yet to be selected as a full international.
Arfield recently admitted leaning towards the Reds, despite being born in Livingston, saying “At this stage of my career it would be a great life experience to go and represent Canada.”
Having been one of the Claret key players over the last two and a half seasons, Arfield is expected to link up with Benito Floro’s Canada squad for the first time for the key World Cup qualifier against Mexico at B.C. Place on March 25th.
Qualification is underway for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, with Canada beating Honduras 1-0 at B.C. Place in November, before a goal-less draw in El Salvador. A win against Mexico would see Canada become one of the top two countries in this stage of CONCACAF qualifying.
