Skipton Town Ladies 1 v 2 Dewsbury Rangers
There turned out to be no love lost between the two side at Engine Shed Lane this Valentines Day Sunday as Skipton Town Ladies entertained Dewsbury Rangers, with a number of first team players missing Skipton had to promote some players from their youth side.
It was a fairly even first half with both teams having a number of half chances at goal, however Skipton had the added bonus of having Sarah Nobbs cousin of Jordan Nobbs (England & Arsenal) midfielder in attack, her pace and power got the better of Dewsbury Rangers on a number of occasions.
Town were playing some great counter attacking football allowing the visitors to press before sending a long ball over the top of the Dewsbury defence for Nobbs to chase with her speed.
Skipton Town took the lead midway thought the first half following an excellent pass by Bex Holt which found Lisa Dawson midway way in the Dewsbury half, having collected the ball she then beat two Dewsbury defenders before hitting a powerful shot from the edge of the area which flow into the top left corner, to make 1-0 to Skipton Town.
However with about five minutes to go to half-time, Dewsbury were level following a poor kick by Skipton goalkeeper Lauren Halliday which fell straight to the Rangers centre forward at the edge of the box, the striker slotted the ball past Halliday to make the half-time score 1-1.
The error by Halliday was a one off blip in an excellent game for the young goalkeeper, who made some excellent saves and also marshalled her defence to ensure they blocked a number of shots from the Rangers forwards.
Halliday is one of a number of youth players coming through the ranks at Skipton Town having made her debut in a pre-season fixture at the start of last season at the age of just fifteen.
The second half was much the same as the first, however Dewsbury had slighty more of the play than their hosts. About ten minutes in the half following a strong, but fair challenge by Bex Holt a Dewsbury midfielder had to be replaced.
On the hour mark, Dewsbury took the lead following an excellent move down the Skipton left, a cross into the six yard box was met by the one of the Dewsbury midfielders who scored to make it 2-1 to Dewsbury Rangers.
In the final ten minutes, Dewsbury should have added a third goal, however some excellent covering defending from Hatty Midgley with a slid tackle cleared the danger and the final score was Skipton Town 1 v Dewsbury Rangers 2.
Skipton Town will now travel away to Boroughbridge next Sunday, as the team welcomes back Amy Green, and Louise Forster.
