Chris Mitchell Passes Away (1989 – 2016)

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of former Bradford City, Clyde, Falkirk, Queen of the South and Livingston defender Chris Mitchell, who died suddenly age of 27.

The defender, who won seven Scottish U21 caps, also made 11 appearance for Bradford City scoring 1 goal.  His death comes just months after the popular player hung up his boots to take up a new job which involved regular travel across the United Kingdom.

Clyde striker Sean Higgins led the tributes this afternoon as he revealed his team mates received the news as they returned from Elgin on Saturday.

He tweeted: “Unfortunately we got the horrific news on the way home last night that Chris Mitchell had passed away. A tragedy is understatement. RIP mate.”

Former team mates tweeted:-

Ex-Falkirk team mate Lee Bullen said: “No words can describe my feelings on the tragic news of Chris Mitchell’s death. Too many questions. You’ll never be forgotten #FlyHi”.

Tam McManus, who played with Mitchell at Falkirk, said: “Utterly devastated to hear my former Falkirk and Ayr United team mate Chris Mitchell passed away. Absolute gem of a guy. RIP Mitch.”

Another Clyde player Scott Ferguson said: “Chris Mitchell!! Great guy on and off the pitch! Very sad news for the club and teammates!! Thoughts are with you friends and family!”
