England Select Heaton For Euro 2016
England manager Roy Hodgson has selected his 26 man squad for Euro 2016 in France, Hodgson has selected three goalkeepers in the squad and one of the three is Burnley captain Tom Heaton.
The Three Lions will play against Turkey, Australia and Portugal in warm up games before the squad is cut to 23 players as England fly out to France for the tournament. Colin McDonald was the last Clarets goalkeeper to feature for England in 1959 and he was also the last Burnley player to play for the Three Lions in a major tournament in 1958.
Speaking about his call up Tom Heaton said, “I’m delighted to be a part of the warm-up games, the next step is to try and make sure I’m definitely in that final 23 man squad.
It’s always a great honour to be called up for your country and I’ll give everything I’ve got every single day to try and be involved in France. I’m told it’s a long time since Burnley had a player make an England appearance at a major tournament.
It’s something you dream of growing up as a kid and after winning the league this season on the domestic front which was top draw. It’s fantastic to be involved with England again with a real chance of going to the Euro 2016 Finals.”
