England 48 v 10 Italy (Pool B Match)
Hosts England were the third game of the day at the Academy Stadium as they took on a young, but strong Italian side. England started the game quite aggressive with some very hard challenges on their opponents which set the tune for the game.
The England forwards were also showing some real strength as they powered through the Italian back line on a number of occasions. Then on eight minutes George Nott went over the line to score England’s first try, before Theo Brophy-Clews scored the conversion to make it 7-0.
The Italian’s then hit back and scored a drop goal through Leonardo Masselli to make the score 7-3, before the referee awarded Italy a penalty which Masselli missed to leave the score still standing at 7-3.
Sam Aspland-Robinson was the next to get on the score sheet when he scored a try on thirty one minutes, this was converted by Harry Mallinder to make the score 14-3. The final action of the half came on thirty seven minutes when Mallinder added a penalty to make the half time score 17-3 to England.
There must have been a few words said in the England dressing room at half time because they came out a different side in the second half. Harry Mallinder extended the lead on forty four minutes with an penalty to make the score 20-3.
On fifty one minutes, Joe Marchant added another try for England before Harry Mallinder added yet another conversion to make the core 27-3. Another try & conversions followed on the hour mark to extend the lead even further to 34-3.
Just three minutes later it was England who extended the lead even further when Jack Singleton score another try before Max Malins added the conversion to move the score to 41-3. At this point Italy’s Damiano Borean also received the Yellow Card.
Engalnd’s final try of the evening came twelve minutes from time when Zach Mercer went over the line and Malins added his second conversion to make the score 48-3.
Italy’s Leonardo Masselli scored the last try and conversion of the game on seventy seven minutes to make the final score 48-10 to England.
