Bury Sign Former Bantams Keeper Williams
Goalkeeper Ben Williams has this afternoon signed a two year contract with Bury Football Club, after rejecting a new deal at the Coral Windows Stadium with Bradford City. Williams joined the Bantams in August 2014, initially on non-contract basis, before spending two successful seasons at Valley Parade making 78 appearances.
Manchester born Williams joins the Bantams having left Scottish side Hibernian at the end of the 2013/14 season, were he was number one keeper for the two seasons. He went on to play 74 times for the Easter Road club in the Scottish Premier League.
Williams, who started his career with home town club Manchester United, featured in the Scottish FA Cup final and UEFA Europa League during his two-year spell with Hibernian.
During his 14-year career as a professional, the 6′ 2” goalkeeper has also made over 100 appearances for both Crewe Alexandra and Colchester United. Williams moved to Crewe on a permanent basis in 2004 following his departure from Old Trafford, spending four years at the Alexandra Stadium in the process.
Last season proved to be a success for Ben as he set a Bradford City club record by keeping 25 clean sheets throughout the campaign. His success for Bradford was rewarded at the end of the season when he was collected the Players’ Player of the Year and Friends of Bradford City Player of the Year awards.
Ben arrives at Carrington with a wealth of experience having made a total of 487 appearances in total. He will link up with his new team mates on Monday to kick off the next stage of his career with the Shakers and has signed a two-year deal with the club.
