Clarets Sign Charlton Keeper

Burnley Sign Charlton’s Nick Pope

Burnley Football Club have confirmed the signing go goalkeeper Nick Pope from Charlton Athletic on a three year contract for an undisclosed fee.  Pope will go straight into the squad for this evenings friendly at Morecambe.

NICK POPE

Pope has gained valuable experience away from Charlton during a number of loan spells earlier in his career most notably at York City and Bury. Aged just 16, he also played in the first team at non league Bury Town, something which he says helped him develop hugely.

Speaking about signing for Burnley Nick Pope said, “I have already spoken to the club captain and goalkeeper Tom Heaton, who is having some time off after being away with England at the Euro’s and i am really looking forward to getting started.

It was nice to get that sort of welcome and start to get to know the lads before I’ve settled in the building and already feel welcome at the club.  Playing for Charlton on the last day of last season against the club, when they were already promoted and going for the title I was extremely impressed.  The Clarets were the best team I played against last season.

On a personal note, I have played a lot of games in the non league with Bury Town and I have also been out on loan at York City and Bury before playing for Charlton Athletic. It was great experience for me and it’s stood me in good stead so far.

To get promoted with Bury from League Two was a great achievement because you always want to achieve things in football.”
