Burnley Sign Flanagan From Liverpool on Loan
Burnley Football Club have this afternoon confirmed the signing of Jon Flanagan on a season-long loan from Liverpool Football Club. The versatile full-back, is one of the most promising talents to emerge from the Reds’ Academy in recent years.
Flanagan made his Liverpool debut aged just eighteen and by then he had already earned call-ups to the England U19s and U21 squads. By the end of the 2013-14 season, following some excellent performances for Liverpool he was named in England’s standby World Cup squad and earned a first international cap in a friendly against Ecuador.
Flanagan’s incredible rise was halted when he suffered a knee injury the following season, but after penning a contract extension at Anfield in May 2015. He has now returned to the Liverpool side for the second half of the 2015/16 season, but is looking to regain his form with a season loan move.
Flanagan becomes the Clarets third summer signing and adds strength to the defensive positions ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.
