David Jones Joins Sheffield Wednesday
Burnley Football Club have confirmed that midfielder David Jones has left Burnley to join Sheffield Wednesday for a fee believed to be in the region of £2.6 million pound.
The Clarets midfielder has activated a release clause in his contract and leaves Turf Moor after three years, during which he twice helped Sean Dyche’s side achieve promotion to the Premier League.
Last season, Jones made 43 appearances at the heart of midfield, forging an impressive partnership with the now departed Joey Barton. The former Wigan Athletic and Wolves playmaker started the current Premier League season last weekend against Swansea City.
Jones, who has also previously played in the top flight for Derby County, made a total of 131 appearances for the Clarets, scoring three goals.
Speaking about David Jones departing Burnley manager Sean Dyche said, “David has been fantastic over three-years at Burnley Football Club and given everything to the cause. He has played a massive part in everything we have achieved over the last few years. He has moved on and we wish him well.”
