Bantams Sign Ireland International

Bradford City Sign Shay McCartan

Bradford City have today confirmed the signing of Northern Ireland International Shay McCartan from Accrington Stanley for a six figure sum.  The former Burnley forward has signed a three year contract at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

The hugely talented striker made his full international debut for Northern Ireland at the start of the month, featuring in a 1-0 win against New Zealand. McCartan has enjoyed an impressive season for Stanley last season, scoring 11 goals in Sky Bet League Two.

McCartan started his career with Glenavon as a youngster, before moving to the UK to sign for Burnley Football Club, he made one solitary appearance for the Clarets before joining Accrington Stanley in 2013 shortly after a loan stint at Hyde.

McCartan has become somewhat of a free-kick and set-piece specialist in the past few seasons, scoring a number of spectacular goals from dead-ball situations, as well as a key provider from corners and free-kicks.  His form led to him becoming a key figure in the Stanley side and the much sought after Irishman now becomes the latest addition to Stuart McCall’s squad.

Speaking about his move to Bradford City, Shay Mccartan said, “I am looking forward to a new challenge and it will be exciting to play in Sky Bet League One.  I am sorry to leave Accrington Stanley, I have had a great four years at the club. I have loved my time at Stanley and they gave me a chance when I was released from Burnley when no one else wanted me.”
