Guiseley AFC 1 v 5 Leeds United (Pre-Season Friendly)

Guiseley AFC first game of the 2017-18 season came against local rival Leeds United as manager Adam Lockwood took the opportunity to watch a number of trialist at a sunny sold out Nethermoor Park.

Thomas Christiansen reign as Leeds United boss started perfectly as his side took the lead after just 17 seconds, when Stuart Dallas found the back of the net with a curling strike from the left hand side of the area into the top corner. Pablo Hernandez was next to go close for Leeds, as the ball fell kindly to him on the edge of the box his volley went just over the crossbar.

After fifteen minutes, Eunan O’Kane then did well to put Marcus Antonsson through on goal, but Jonny Maxted made an excellent save.  Kemar Roofe felt he should have been awarded a penalty on twenty-six minutes, he did well to cut inside and dribble into the box before being brought down, but the referee waved away the penalty appeal.

On twenty-seven minutes, the Whites extended their lead when Luke Ayling did well to break into the Guiseley box, before sending a low cross through the area, which arrived at Stuart Dallas at the left-hand side of the area, he again curled the ball past Maxted into the top right corner of the goal to make it 2-0.

The Whites two goal cushion lasted for less than a minute as one of the trialist cut just inside the area, before curling the ball past Rob Green into the top right-hand corner of the goal to make the score 2-1 to Leeds.

Leeds United restored their two goal lead on thirty-three minutes when Pablo Hernandez made a fine run into the Guiseley penalty area before playing the ball across the six yard box for Marcus Antonsson to tap the ball home from two yards.  Antonsson was next to be denied by the Maxted in the Guiseley goal, when his header from a corner was well saved which left the half-time score 3-1 to Leeds United.

The second half began with both sides making eleven changes and it was Leeds United that had the first attempt, as Souleymane Doukara drove forward into the box, before playing the ball across goal for Gomes who could only fire over from a narrow angle.

Leeds United added a fourth goal on fifty-eight minute when Hadi Sacko did well down the wing before providing a low cross into the area for Lee Erwin who finished the attack by putting the ball into the bottom corner.

Ten minutes later Sacko again continued to threat, this time he picked out Gomes, but Guiseley defender Daniel East did really well to prevent a fifth.  Gomes then tried his luck from range, but he was unable to direct his effort on target.

Erwin added a fifth for Leeds United in the final minute when Souleymane Doukara hit a long-range effort at goal, which goalkeeper Joe Green could only parry and Erwin tapped home the rebound, to make the final score 5-1 to Leeds United.

Guiseley AFC will continue their pre-season training on Tuesday night at 7.30pm against Barnsley Football Club at Nethermoor Park.
