Clarets Keen On Anders Lindegaard
Sean Dyche is looking to add a goalkeeper to his squad so that he can give Tom Heaton as long as possible to make a full recovery. The Clarets keeper had surgery yesterday after he dislocated his shoulder in an incident with Ben Mee in the win over Crystal Palace.
Thee is no timescale on Heaton’s absence, said Sean Dyche other than to say it will be for a longer period than just weeks, which allows Heaton time to come back fully fit.
Former Manchester United, West Bromwich Albion and Preston North End goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard is currently training with the Clarets and Burnley would be able to sign the Danish international as a free agent.
Speaking about Lindegaard Sean Dyche said, “He’s come in to spend a few days with us and enjoy what we do. Ideally in the perfect world you want three keepers maybe a younger keeper under that as well and that’s what we’re looking to do.”
The Clarets currently have Nick Pope and Adam Legzdins as potential deputies for club captain Heaton, while Northern Ireland under-21 international Conor Mitchell is currently gaining further experience on loan at Chester FC.
Pope came off the bench as Heaton’s replacement against Palace to see out a clean sheet in a 1-0 win and is in line to face Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.
Manager Sean Dyche added, “He’s been working with some top-class keepers, also coach Billy Mercer is doing a great job and having had Robbo (Paul Robinson) here will rub off on him. He’s been improving all the time, however the main measure is when you play you’ve still got to see improvement on a daily basis and I think we have seen that in Nick.
He delivered a very good performance in a tough game, an awkward game for us and he has got a chance to continue and show what he can do. That’s a great opportunity to get established in a Premier League side and push Tom Heaton for teh shirt.”
