Jonny Maxted Signs For Accrington Stanley
Guiseley AFC have this morning confirmed that goalkeeper Jonny Maxted has left the club to sign for Sky Bet League Two side Accrington Stanley on an eighteen month contract for an undisclosed fee following two excellent performances against John Coleman’s side in this seasons FA Cup.
Maxted made 59 appearances for Guiseley since first joining on a three-month loan spell from Forest Green Rovers at the start of September 2016. His deal was made permanent in January 2017, before he went on to win the Supporters’ Club’s Craig Shearstone Player of the Season award.
Raised in Boston Spa the former Doncaster Rovers stopper is the nephew of one of the 1991 FA Vase heroes, goalkeeper Paul Maxted. At Doncaster, Jonny made it to the first team subs bench at the age of sixteen and gained experience in loan spells at Goole and Gainsborough Trinity.
After leaving Doncaster he spent some time at Hartlepool before joining Forest Green at the start of the 2015-16 season. Maxted will now return to football league action as he has been included in Accrington Stanley’s squad to face Port Vale at the weekend.
