Dr Dolittle Filming – On Set In Kirby Lonsdale

The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle is an upcoming American fantasy adventure film directed by Stephen Gaghan and written by Gaghan and Thomas Shepherd. The film is based on the character of Doctor Dolittle, created by Hugh Lofting and is primarily based on the Voyages of Doctor Dolittle.


The cast and crew have been on set in Kirby Lonsdale, North Yorkshire all week filming scenes from the new movie that will be released on the 12th April 2019, the film is under distribution by Universal Pictures making it the first film based on Doctor Dolittle not to be distributed by 20th Century Fox.


Robert Downey Jr. is playing the title character working alongside other major stars such as Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, Harry Collett, Jim Broadbent as well as local Ribble Valley actor Jerry Willey who plays a stall holder in the live-action roles.

There is also an excellent voice cast including Emma Thompson as a parrot, Selena Gomez as a giraffe, Kumail Nanjiani as an ostrich, Ralph Fiennes as a tiger, Octavia Spencer as a duck, Rami Malek as a gorilla, Tom Holland as a dog, Marion Cotillard as a fox and John Cena as a polar bear.


The story is based on the character of Doctor Dolittle, who originates in Hugh Lofting’s 1920s series of children’s books. Dr Dolittle arrives in Puddleby-on-the-Marsh with the news that the monkeys of Africa are ill and only the doctor who talks with animals can save them, Dolittle and his good friends Jip his loyal dog, Dab-Dab his housekeeper duck face their greatest challenge.
