Tarkowski Out of World Cup Squad

Summer Operation For James Tarkowski

Burnley defender James Tarkowski has withdrawn from England’s World Cup squad preparation camp at St. George’s Park to undergo a hernia operation. The centre back has been training with the Three Lions all week, having been selected on Gareth Southgate’s five-man stand-by list.

Tarkowski, who earned his England debut in March had harboured hopes of travelling to Russia this summer along with team mate Nick Pope.  However after managing an issue with ongoing groin problem and following an assessment in recent days, it has been decided that the 25-year-old requires surgery instead. Tarkowski is expected to be fit for the Clarets’ return to pre-season training in early July.
