Mitchell, who had a loan spell with Chester in the Vanarama National League last season making 8 appearances for the club. Having travelled to Ireland last week with the Clarets for the Cork City friendly, Mitchell is now in Scotland training with the Saints.

St Johnstone face Falkirk in the Betfred Cup tonight with Brian Easton, Joe Shaughnessy, Chris Kane, Ali McCann and Greg Hurst all still side lined. The Saints have not concede a goal in the competition as yet drawing 0-0 with East Fife and beating Montrose 1-0.

Speaking about the possible loan signing manager Tommy Wright said, “We’ve got Conor Mitchell up from Burnley and we’re hoping to conclude a season long loan deal in the next day or two.  He’s an U21 international and with him and Mark Hurst there will be some real competition for Zander Clark.  We have had four or five options, but having brought Connor up we would like to get something done with him.”
