Clarets Striker Extends Contract

Sam Vokes Signs Three Year Contract Extension

Burnley Football Club have today confirmed that long-serving striker Sam Vokes has signed a new deal to extend his stay at Turf Moor. Vokes has agreed a three-year contract running until June 2021, which will take him to a near decade-long stay with the Clarets.

The Wales international, joined the Clarets from Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2012 following a two-month loan spell the previous season. He has since made 246 appearances for the club, sharing in two promotion successes and helping the Clarets qualify for Europe for the first time in 52 years last season.

Vokes, who completed a century of Premier League appearances with a match-winning performance at Cardiff City last month, has scored 63 goal for the Clarets, including two during his loan stay. His 20 goals in the 2013/14 season, as part of a prolific partnership with Danny Ings, propelled Sean Dyche’s side to promotion to the Premier League before he scored 15 times in Burnley’s Championship title win in 2015.

The Welsh International has followed that up by hitting double figures in the Premier League and after scoring Burnley’s first goal in Europe for 51 years at Aberdeen in July, the Southampton-born frontman has score twice in his last three Premier League games to underline his ongoing value to the Clarets’ cause.

Vokes follows Kevin Long and Ben Mee in signing new deals since the summer, with the Clarets’ longest serving three players all now committed until 2021.
