Southgate Ready to Recall Tom Heaton to England Squad
Gareth Southgate will be at Turf Moor this weekend to watch Burnley’s Premier League clash with Fulham as he considers a shock recall to the England camp for Tom Heaton.
The Clarets’ keeper regained the number jersey from Joe Hart for their morale-boosting 2-0 victory over West Ham United last month and was between in goal for their 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town, a result which lifted Sean Dyche’s men out of the relegation zone.
Nick Pope returned from injury and played in last weekend’s FA Cup win against Barnsley, however Heaton is expected to return to face Claudio Ranieri’s fulham side. Southgate is a big admirer of Heaton, who had 476 gone days without top flight action before his recall.
The ex-Cardiff and Bristol City man was named on the standby list for England’s World Cup squad this summer, despite not playing a competitive match since the previous September thanks to a dislocated shoulder.
