Settle Cricket Club v Ribblesdale Wanderers (Ribblesdale League)
After winning the Ribblesdale Cricket League 20/20 Championship at Salesbury Cricket Club, the newly crowned Champions returned to league action this weekend as they faced Ribblesdale Wanderers Cricket Club at Marshfield.
Settle, won the toss and put the visitors into bat on a day were the weather conditions played a massive part. Eddy Read & Ryan Hodgson took the new ball and both bowlers had an impact with Hodgson keeping it tight at one end whilst Eddy Read attacked the batsmen from the other.
Ribblesdale Wanderers opening batsmen Mark Spencer and Michael English came to the crease but only managed five runs in the opening twenty seven balls, before English was trapped LBW for a duck off the bowling of Eddy Read. Next into bat for the visitors was Ryan Canning, who top scored for the visitors scoring twenty-seven runs of fifty-two balls, which included three (4’s) before being bowled by Ashen Silva.
Shaan Singh-Parhar, was next to the crease as the pressure increased on the visitors, having faced thirty-three balls Eddy Read dismissed Singh-Parhar for just four runs as the rain stopped play for around fifteen minutes.
It didn’t improve for the visitors after the rain delay as their middle order and tail end collapsed, scoring just seventeen runs with the remaining seven wickets as they were all out for just eighty-three runs of which twenty-one were extras.
In terms of the bowling the wickets were taken by Will Davidson (4 wickets for 9 runs), Eddy Read (3 wickets for 26 runs) and Ashen Silva (3 wickets for 23 runs), whilst Ryan Hogdson kept the pressure on the visitors from the other end.
Settle came out after the interval needing just eight-four runs from forty-two overs which they managed easily. Robbie Davidson was the only wicket to fall for the home side, when he misjudged a delivery from Jordan Britcliffe and was caught by Andrew Needham for two runs off eight deliveries.
Opener Danyl Husbands made an unbeaten forty-five whilst club professional Ashen Silva made an unbeaten twenty-nine as the home side finished on eighty-four for one to win the match by nine wickets and go second in the Ribblesdale Cricket League.
