Settle Cricket Club v Brinscall Cricket Club (Ribblesdale Cricket League)
Settle Cricket Club started the day level on points with Salesbury Cricket Club at the top of the Ribblesdale Cricket League as they welcomed Brinscall Cricket Club to Marshfield in the latest round of league fixtures. Settle were forced into a number of changes with Tom Harris away and Robbie, Tom and Will Davidson away on international duty with Latvia.
Tom Strickland won the toss and elected to bat first with a new opening partnership of Danyl Husbands and Harry Snowden, who both got off to a solid start despite the slow run rate. Husbands was the first to be dismissed after being bowled by Sam MacLachian for fifteen runs which included three (4’s).
Ashen Silva was next to the crease and made a solid start to his innings scoring twenty runs off thirty-one balls, however just as he started put press on the visitors attack he was caught by Sehan Weerasinghe in the deep off the bowling of Sam MacLachian going for another boundary to leave on 67-3.
Harry Snowden was the next to be dismissed after the opener had made Twenty four runs from fifty-eight balls. Sam MacLachian took the wicket, bowling the youngster after he had made some excellent shots to all area’s of the ground.
Settle then started to take control of the game with John Davidson and Eddy Read at the crease as both batsman reached their half centuries. Davidson scored fifty-two runs from sixty-five balls which included six (4’s) and one (6) before being caught by Peter Berry off the bowling of Jonathan McDonald.
Eddy Read also made fifty-two runs from fifty-nine balls which included six (4’s) and two (6’s) before being bowled by Weerasinghe as he looked to increase the run rate. The home side added a further eleven runs from Ryan Sumner, Benjamin Hulse, Simon Tarbox and captain Tom Strickland who was unbeaten on one run as Settle finished on one hundred and eighty nine runs from the forty-four overs.
During the interval rain started again and play was suspended after the break before later being abandoned as the covers stayed on the square, this left both side with just three points leaving Settle Cricket Club in second place in the league table just three points behind Salesbury Cricket Club.
