Clarets Offer Academy Graduate Scott Wilson First Contract
Burnley Football Club have today confirmed they have offered academy graduate defender Scott Wilson his first professional contract at Turf Moor. Wilson, who has been with the Clarets since 2013 has signed a twelve month deal with the option of a further year.
The left-sided centre-back was kept on as a scholar last summer and now progresses to the professional ranks after an impressive U23 season. A local lad who comes from Lango, has spent spells on work experience at Stalybridge Celtic at the start last season enjoying a run of first-team games at left-back with the Evo Stik Premier League side.
Having returned to Turf Moor in January he was then a regular in Steve Stone’s side as they reached the quarter-finals of the Premier League Cup and the LFA Senior Cup Final.
Speaking about signing his first team contract Scott Wilson said, “Having spent a number of years at the club, I’m delighted to have signed for the club. I’ve enjoyed my time at the club academy and being a scholar. I took it on, did what I needed to do, did my loan spell which I enjoyed and then came back and showed what I’m all about.
I think that I have come back from my loan spell a bit more mature, knowing how the game works. It has been an important year for me to show what I can do in order to win a full time contract. I was buzzing at the news and my mum and dad are very proud.”
