Settle Cricket Club v Read Cricket Club (Ramsbottom Cup)
Read Cricket Club arrived at Marshfield this afternoon for the second time this season having lost on their first visit in the Ribblesdale Cricket League, the Lancashire side were looking to take their revenge in the quarter-finals of the Ramsbottom Cup.
The visitors won the toss and elected to put the home side into bat bringing both Danyl Husbands and Harry Snowden to the crease on a sunny afternoon at Marshfield. It was the young oversea’s batsman Husbands that was first to be dismissed for just six runs, caught by Luke Jongwe off the bowling of Jamie Woodall.
Club professional Ashen Silva was next at the crease and whilst he and Snowden faced around seventy balls they failed to score quickly and Snowden was next to be dismissed by Andrew Rushton for eight runs off thirty-six balls. Tom Davidson was next into bat but he only lasted eleven before being dismissed for nine runs which included one (6).
Silva can consider himself unlucky after being run out for twenty-six off sixty-four balls when an Eddy Read shot hit his wicket leaving Settle on sixty four for five.
With five wickets down Eddy Reid tried to pick up the pace in order to add some valuable runs, but after playing himself in he was caught near the boundary by Luke Powell off the bowling of Warren Eastham for eight runs.
John Davidson and Will Davidson then tried to take the game to the visitors as both players started to make some shots around the ground, Will Davidson made a quick fire twenty off just ten balls which included two (4’s) and two (6’s) before being caught by Duncan Bennett off the bowling off Matthew Walker.
As the home side found themselves in trouble at ninety-nine for nine in stepped wicket keeper Ryan Sumner and bowler Owen West to add a much needed twenty seven runs to the final total of 126 all out.
William Wrathall and Duncan Bennett opened the batting for Read Cricket Club as they looked to make one hundred and twenty-seven runs for victory. The visitors started strongly with Wrathall making twenty seven runs including two (4’s) and one (6) before being dismissed by Tom Davidson.
Bennett and Matthew Walker added a further twenty-nine runs before Bennett was run out by John Davidson and Walker made fourteen from ten balls before also being bowled by Tom Davidson. Luke Jongwe top scored for Read hitting thirty nine runs from seventy three balls.
Tom Davidson was the pick of the bowlers for Settle taking four wickets for twenty six runs off eight overs, whilst Danyl Husbands, Ashen Silva and Eddy Read all took one wicket each as the visitors went on to win the game by one wicket.
