Anthony Glennon Clarets U23 Captain Joins Grimsby Town On Loan

Burnley Football Club have this afternoon confirmed that defender Anthony Glennon (U23 Captain) has joined Grimsby Town on loan until the end of the season, making him Ian Holloway’s first signing at the club.

Primarily an attacking left full-back, he joined the Clarets in June 2018 after being let go by Liverpool Football Club, having progressed through the academy system from the age of six. Following his release from anfield he impressed on trial at Turf Moor before putting pen-to-paper on a new contract with Burnley, recently extending his deal by an additional two years taking his contract until the summer of 2021.

Following a string of impressive performances in the 2018/19 season as captain, he was selected for the first team squad for Burnley’s home game vs. Manchester City in April 2019. Glennon also travelled to Stamford Bridge with the squad for their 2-2 draw at Chelsea, however he was not selected for the final matchday squad of eighteen.

Speaking about the loan move to Grimsby Town Anthony Glennon said, “I finished training at Burnley yesterday and received a phone call from Ian Holloway in which he said he wanted me to join on loan and train today, so it was short notice but I travelled to Grimsby last night. I need the experience, it’s men’s football and it’s the next step in my career.” Glennon, is now eligible for The Mariners Sky Bet League fixture away at Leyton Orient this weekend were he will be hoping to make his debut.
