North Ribblesdale 47 v 7 Kirby Lonsdale (Women’s Challenge Series)
Following a number of cancelled fixtures over the last few weeks due to storm Dennis and storm Ciara, North Ribblesdale Ladies returned to action on International Women’s Day as local rival Kirby Lonsdale made the short trip to Grove Park in the Women’s Challenge Series as the home side looked to make it four wins in their last five games.
In the opening ten minutes, both sides had some good possession of the ball without really creating to many scoring chances, then North Ribblesdale started to take control and run with the ball. Having worked their way up field to the visitors twenty-two line Charlotte Charnley broke free to score a try in the corner to give the home side a 5-0 lead.
Midway through the half the home side scored a second try as Lauren Collier collected the ball on the wing around the half-way line, before going passed a couple of Kirby Lonsdale players to score the try and make the score 10-0. Ribblesdale missed the opportunity to add a further two points as the conversion went just wide of the posts.
North Ribblesdale extended their lead even further when Elinor Paul added a third try of the afternoon, collecting the ball just inside her own twenty-two, before breaking through the visitors line and running the full length of the pitch before going over the line under the posts to make it 15-0. Emily Carpenter added the conversion to make the score 17-0.
Kirby Lonsdale then had a little spell of possession and spent sometime in the Ribblesdale twenty-two, but the home side stayed solid and defended well keeping the visitors out. But whilst defending the line Amelia Bullock received treatment for a shoulder injury, which forced her out of the match later in the second-half.
Kate Rollason, added a fifth try for the home side with around five minutes of the first half remaining. An excellent passing move which went across the line with pace before the ball ended up with Kate Rollason who went over in the corner to make the score 22-0.
The vistors got themselves onto the scoresheet just before the interval following some good possession inside the North Ribblesdale twenty-two. A quick pass to Emma Dever saw her power through to score at the base of the posts to make it 22-5. The visitors then added the conversion through Emily Storey to make the half-time score 22-7.
North Ribblesdale management and coaching staff must have delivery an excellent half time team talk as the home side were outstanding in the second half. In the opening twenty minutes of the second half, Kate Rollason, Lauren Collier and Emily Carpenter all added further tries to make the score 37-7.
The home side extended their lead even further with around ten minutes remaining, when Victoria Parrish collected the ball on the wing just inside the visitors half before out pacing the visitors defence to score an eighth try of the afternoon making the score 42-7.
After being treated in the first-half for a shoulder injury, Amelia Bullock stayed down following a challenge which lead to the game being stopped for about five minutes. During the challenge Amelia Bullock had hit the floor shoulder first which caused a more damage to the shoulder injury from the first-half and after treatment she had to leave the field with her arm supported in a sling.
North Ribblesdale extended their lead even further when Sarah Hargreaves added the ninth try of afternoon after collecting the ball on the halfway line and running passed five visiting players, before going under the posts to make the full time score 47-7.
Following the emphatic victory over Kirby Lonsdale Women this weekend, Kate Dinsdale side know that victory over Women’s Challenge Series league leaders Upper Eden Ladies at Grove Park on the 29th March will see them go top of the league table.
