Jeff Hendrick Linked to Newcastle United & Aston Villa
When Jeff Hendrick was linked with a move to AC Milan a number of weeks ago it came as a bit of a shock. Hendrick has long been a solid Premier League contributor, but Irish players rarely venture onto the continent. Irish football fans were intrigued to see how the Dubliner would get on at one of Europe’s biggest clubs. Unfortunately, that potential deal seems dead in the water with the coronavirus pandemic likely to have an impact.
There has been little update on where he could end up this summer, although a move to another Premier League side now seems like by far the most likely option. According to Chronicle Live, Hendrick has been offered to Newcastle United by the player’s agent in recent times. Steve Bruce’s side are said to be interested in the Irishman with midfield thought to be an area of priority this summer.
A free transfer would also appeal to the club, especially since the collapse of their Saudi takeover leaves them without the large transfer kitty that would have been hoping for in the coming weeks. Hendrick has also been offered to Aston Villa, a club who have made recruiting players with Premier League experience a priority this summer.
Either move would be a decent one for the midfielder although it would seem a sidewards step in his career. However, it is likely that his status as a free agent should allow him to secure a much larger contract in comparison to the one he would have received at Burnley.
Many clubs are returning for pre-season in less than two weeks, one would assume that Hendrick’s future should wrapped up sooner rather than later. It will surely be done by the beginning of September, when Hendrick will be on international duty with Ireland for the UEFA Nations League games against Bulgaria and Finland.
