Former Clarets Goalkeeper Returns to Old Trafford

Tom Heaton – Former Clarets Goalkeeper Rejoins Manchester United

Former Clarets goalkeeper Tom Heaton is aiming to challenge David de Gea and Dean Henderson for the number one spot at Manchester United. Heaton, who has rejoined the club where he began his career has told his close friends he plans to push hard to become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first choice keeper. It looks increasingly unlikely that Manchester United’s present goalkeepers will both be at Old Trafford next season.

Tom Heaton has agreed to sign a two year contract with an option for a third year, which will bring to end a two season stay at Aston Villa. Despite having four goalkeepers on the books their is a real goalkeeping crisis at the club, with David de Gea looking to leave the club this summer, Dean Henderson has made it clear he will leave if he is not Solskjaer’s first choice and current third choice Sergio Romero is out of contract in the summer and has so far turned down the offer of an extension and fourth-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant has been told he can leave the club in the summer when his contract expires.

Having started his career at Old Trafford he went on to work his way through the youth teams before playing for the reserves and in the 2007-08 season he was on the bench all season for Alex Ferguson’s side but never made his first team debut for the club, before transferring to Burnley Football Club under Stan Ternent. With all of the current issues the move back to Old Trafford will finally allow the 35 year old the chance to make his first team debut for Manchester United, something he has been dreaming about all his life.
