Joel Mumbongo Joins Accrington Stanley On a Season Long Loan

Burnley Football Club have this morning confirmed that striker Joel Mumbongo has joined Accrington Stanley on a season-long loan. The Clarets triggered a clause in Mumbongo’s contract this summer to extend his stay at Turf Moor for another year and the loan move is to give him some first team experience.

Burnley have now allowed the the young striker who made a handful of first-team team appearances in the Premier League last season to join their League One neighbours to further his senior experience. Mumbongo, a former Sweden U19 international joined the Clarets two years ago after impressing during a trial spell with the U23s.

He has since been a regular in Steve Stone’s side in Premier League Two and finished as the Clarets’ second top scorer last season with eight goals in the second tier. Mumbongo also featured at first-team level for the first time following a number of injuries to the Clarets’ senior strikers.

The frontman, who has also previously spent time in Italy with Hellas Verona, made seven appearances from the bench for Sean Dyche’s side. His debut came against MK Dons in the FA Cup before getting a first brief taste of the Premier League as a late substitute at Chelsea at the end of January. Mumbongo, made three subsequent substitute appearances in the Premier League, now links up with Stanley as the Reds prepare for a fourth successive season in Sky Bet League One.
