Sam Vokes In Advance Talks to Join Wycombe Wanderers
Wycombe Wanderers Football Club are in advanced talks to sign former Clarets and Wales International striker Sam Vokes after Stoke City revealed they would allow him to leave this summer with just twelve months left on his current contract.
A Wycombe source has now told Football Insider they are in advanced talks over a potential move. Sky Bet League One rivals Shrewsbury Town had set their sights on a potential loan move for the thirty-one 31-year-old back in June. However, it now appears Wycombe are in the driving seat. The Chairboys are in the market for attacking reinforcements after suffering relegation from the Sky Bet Championship last term.
Wycombe have sold last season’s top goalscorer Uche Ikpeazu to Middlesborough this summer, after the twenty-six year old scored six times and provided four assists in his thirty one Sky Bet Championship appearances last season. Vokes could offer Gareth Ainsworth a proven alternative with Sky Bet League One experience.
The Wales international scored seven goals and contributed three assists in sixty-two appearances in England’s third-tier for Bournemouth and Leeds United earlier on in his career. Vokes, has found goals harder to come by in recent seasons though. He ended last season with just one goal, which was a header against Aston Villa in the EFL Cup. In the Sky Bet Championship, his thirty appearances, including just five starts, yielded no goals and no assists.
