Ian Maatsen Joins Clarets On Season Long Loan
Burnley Football Club are delighted to announce the arrival of defender Ian Maatsen on a season-long loan from Chelsea. The 20-year-old has spent the last two years out on loan, first at Charlton Athletic in Sky Bet League One and then Coventry City in the Sky Bet Championship last season.

Maatsen, born in Vlaardingen Netherlands, spent time in the academies of Feyenoord, Sparta Rotterdam and PSV, before a move to Stamford Bridge. On the international front, the left-back has represented the Netherlands from U15-U21 level, winning the UEFA European U17 Championships in 2019.
After becoming a Claret, Maatsen said: “I’m excited to come here and play for Burnley, it’s a big club and a new challenge which I’m ready for. It’s a different town, but a new challenge. I look forward to meeting new people and this season will be good for me.”
Manager Vincent Kompany said: “We’re pleased to add Ian to our team, he’s a talented, energetic and pacy player, who can defend and get forward well. Ian will be a great addition to our team on and off the pitch.”
