John Francis Joins Ilkley Town Coaching Staff
Ilkley Town Football Club have announced that former Burnley winger John Francis has joined the club as Coach and will manage the sixth form football scholarship programme, coaching players from 16-18 years old in order to progress them through to the U21, U23 and then into the first team at the MPM Stadium.
The scholarship is in partnership with St Mary’s school Menston. The school is rated Ofsted outstanding. Uniquely the program caters for boys and girls aged 16-18 and offers a full range of A level options as well as BTEC Sport. This makes the program attractive to students who want to pursue their football to a good standard as well as keep all their options open through study.
The scholarship is part of the pathway to Ilkley Town’s U21, U23 and men’s first team who play at a semi-professional level and Ilkley’s women’s team. It provides a great football experience as well as excellent academic options and personal development.
John is a highly experienced coach and played football professionally most notably for Burnley He is a UEFA A license coach and has worked at Richmond International Academic and Soccer Academy (RIASA) and Leeds United. John will work closely with David Cope who joined as the scholarship manger at the start of this month.
