Clarets Join race For Liverpool Defender Sepp Van den Berg
Liverpool Football Club defender Sepp van den Berg is the subject of loan interest from a host of Sky Bet Championship clubs. The young centre back is set to leave Anfield on a temporary basis before the transfer deadline, with Watford, Burnley, Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United all vying for his signature.
Van den Berg has spent the last eighteen months on loan at Preston North End but is now poised for a move to a rival Sky Bet Championship side. When asked about his interest in Van den Berg, Burnley boss Vincent Kompany said, “We’re talking about another club’s player, all I can say is Sepp is a really good player but a key part of it is to find a balance between the players we’ve already got and the game time, making sure that we’re strong enough.”
Van den Berg featured for Liverpool during the club’s pre-season campaign, but his chances of first team football under Jurgen Klopp would be severely limited with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez all vying for game time. Klopp has already sent twenty-one year old centre half Rhys Williams on loan to second tier side Blackpool for the season.
