Settle Cricket Club v Read Cricket Club (2022 Ramsbottom Cup Final)

The Ramsbottom Cup Final (2022) was hosted by Settle Cricket Club this season as they entertained Read Cricket Club at Marshfield. There was a large crowd at the ground who created an excellent atmosphere as Settle Cricket Club looked to win the Cup Final to make it a league and cup double winning season.

The visits won the toss and elected to bat first with Michael Whalley and Declan Bailey opening the batting for the visitors, the duo manage a stead start to the innings making twenty-three runs for the opening stand before Declan Bailey was caught by Dante Niles off the bowling of Eddy Read for eight runs which included one (4) from fifteen deliveries.

Shrikant Mundhe was next into bat for the visitors joining Michael Whalley in the middle, but the pair only lasted one over as Michael Whalley was clean bowled by Harry Snowden for twelve runs which included two (4’s), the opener faced eighteen balls and his dismissal left the visitors 23-2.

William Wrathall (Captain) was next out to the crease but he faced just eleven balls before being trapped LBW by Eddy Read for just two runs. Bennett was next into the middle for the visitor, but he lasted just three balls before being run out by Ashen Silva after an excellent delivery from Harry Snowden for one run, leaving the visitors 28-4.

Joseph Halstead was next into bat for the visitors, joining Shrikant Mundhe at the crease as the pair looked to rebuild the innings for Read Cricket Club. The duo worked together well and create a sixty run partnership, before Joseph Halstead was clean bowled by Tom Davidson for nineteen runs off fifty-six balls which included one (6).

Shrikant Mundhe was then joined by Ben Dinning in the middle and the pair added a further forty-eight to the visitors scoreboard, before Mundhe was dismissed trapped LBW by Tom Davidson for fifty-one runs from seventy-six balls which included six (4’s) leaving the visitors 136-6. Joshua Lavin was next into bat for the visitors, but he was dismissed after just thirteen balls when he was caught behind off the bowling of Harry Snowden.

As the visitors went into the final over of their innings Andrew Rushton was dismissed for a golden duck, which brought Dominic Heyes into the middle and he and Jack Wood both saw out the over and left the pitch not out as the visitors finished their innings 166-9.

Having been set a target of 167 runs by the visitors to win the Ramsbottom Cup Final, Settle Cricket Club opening the batting with Archie Phillipson and John Davidson and we just two runs on the board the home side lost their first wicket. Archie Phillipson was clean bowled for a duck by Halstead after just three balls, you could see the disappointment in the young batsman face as he left the pitch.

Ashen Silva (Club Professional) was next into bat for the home side and the pair started to build a good partnership adding thirty-six runs to the scoreboard before John Davidson was trapped LBE off the bowling of Andrew Rushton for nine runs from twenty-six deliveries leaving Settle Cricket Club 38-2.

Robbie Davidson then joined Ashen Silva at the crease and between them they added a further forty runs to the scoreboard before Robbie Davidson was trapped LBW by Andrew Rushton for nineteen from twenty-six balls which included one (4) and one (6).

Tom Davidson was next into bat for the home side but was dismissed quickly by the visitors after making eight runs from fifteen balls before being caught by Bennett off the bowling of Dominic Heyes.

Settle were around halfway to the winning total with four wickets down as Ben Hulse joined Ashen Silva in the middle, together they added sixty-nine runs to the scoreboard leaving the home side just eleven runs short of the winning total. Ashen Silva was then caught by Joshua Lavin off the bowling of Joseph Halstead for seventy-eight runs from one hundred and eleven balls, Silva was very disappointed not to see out the innings.

The pressure started to tell on the home side as they to get over the line and the visitors started to take some wickets. The first wicket to fall was Will Davidson for a duck after facing just two balls and he was followed two balls later when Ben Hulse was trapped LBW for twenty-five runs from thirty-five balls to leave the home side 160-7.

Settle needed just seven more runs with four wickets in hand and it looked like James Snowden and Dante Niles were about to get the home side over the line, but Joseph Halstead had other idea’s and he took the wicket of Dante Niles caught by Joseph Lavin for five runs off ten balls leaving the home side 166-8.

It was left to the Snowden brothers (James & Harry) to get the home side over the line as Harry Snowden hit the winning shot to leave both James & Harry not out as Settle Cricket Club won the match by two wickets to be crowd the new 2022 Ramsbottom Cup Winners.

After the match, Settle Cricket Club were presented the Ramsbottom Cup as well as the Ribblesdale Cricket League Trophy after winning the league title last weekend, making it four consecutive championships in a row and five in six years. Settle Cricket Club will now face an England XI side including the likes of Monty Panesar, Alex Tudor, Phil De Freitas, Ian Austin and Steve Harmison at Marshfield this Friday.
