Ashley Westwood – Joining Charlotte Football Club (MLS)
Clarets midfielder Ashley Westwood is expected to leave Turf Moor in the January transfer window to join MLS side Charlotte Football Club on what is believed to be a three year contract. Westwood, has been out in the United States for a few weeks and watched the Atlanta Hawks vs Charlotte Hornets basketball game at the Spectrum Centre in Charlotte on the 16th December 2022.
Charlotte Football Club is an American professional soccer club that competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference. The team is owned by David Tepper, was awarded the expansion franchise on the 17th December 2019. It began playing in the 2022 MLS season as the league’s 28th franchise. Charlotte FC play at the Bank of America Stadium, which it shares with the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League.
Ashley Westwood, swapped the Claret & Blue of Aston Villa for Burnley in the summer of 2017 and has since gone on to make 181 appearance, scoring 7 goals for the Clarets in the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and the UEFA Europa League. His final game for the club was against West Ham United at the London Stadium on 17 April 2022, Westwood suffered a serious ankle injury in a collision with Nikola Vlasic, ruling him out for the rest of the season.
