Clarets Defender Scottish Premier League Side On Loan

Clarets Defender CJ Egan-Riley Joins Hibernian On Loan

Burnley Football Club have this morning confirmed that defender CJ Egan-Riley has joined Scottish Premier League side Hibernian Football Club on loan for the rest of the 2022/23 season. The twenty year old centre-back joins in order to gain some first team experience in the Scottish Premier League.

CJ, who is more than comfortable at centre-back, right-back and as a number six, signs with a top pedigree. The youngster came through the Manchester City Academy and went on to make three first team appearances for City under Pep Guardiola, were he played in the Premier League, Champions League and the English Football League Cup.

In the summer of 2022 he moved to Burnley to link up with former Manchester City and Belgium captain Vincent Kompany, who has this season taken over the managers role at Turf Moor. During his time with the Clarets Egan-Riley has made six appearances and he has also represented England at U15 to U19 Levels.

On the signing of the talented defender, Hibernian Manager Lee Johnson said, “CJ is a top young talent and we can’t wait to start working with him. He’s a player that the Burnley manager Vincent Kompany took to Burnley after knowing his qualities from the Manchester City set-up. Due to Burnley’s positive form and performances this season, they have allowed him out on loan to get important game-time.

As soon as we knew he was available, we were quick to snap up the opportunity. He provides us with extra versatility playing as a centre-half, number six and as a right-back. We see this as an opportunity to help us improve, but also as a huge opportunity to help Egan-Riley develop in his career and push for a starting place in Vincent Kampany’s side next season in the Premier League.”
