Max Johnson – Clarets Chasing Scottish U21 International Defender
Motherwell defender Max Johnston is set to be offered a route to the English Premier League with the Sky Bet Championship leaders Burnley Football Club, the nineteen year old is enjoying an astonishing breakthrough year at Fir Park having returned from a loan spell at Cove Rangers in January and hit the ground running. He’s been a key part of Stuart Kettlewell’s revival and caught the eye with a superb assist for Kevin Van Veen against Glasgow Rangers at the weekend.
The Clarets are currently thirteen points clear at top of the Sky Bet Championship under Vincent Kompany and while they are currently under a transfer embargo, that is expected to be lifted soon with their promotion to the top flight imminent. The Club are ready to make their move for Johnston who is out of contract in the summer. The Lancashire outfit already have one eye on looking to the future and the Scotland U21 International is very much one who is on their radar.
They have already scouted him regularly in recent weeks both in person and remotely. The in-demand right-back is attracting interest from clubs in England, Bundesliga and Serie A but Burnley are ready to make their move. Motherwell have also offered Johnston a new contract but look to be fighting a losing battle with the interest in him. Johnston is set to head to Spain for Scotland’s international friendlies against Sweden and Cymru (Wales).
