Sky Bet Championship Rivals Chasing Scott Twine

Scott Twine Looking For Summer Transfer Away From Turf Moor

Bristol City remain in talks with Burnley to try and conclude a deal for Scott Twine, with confidence that a deal can be struck and if terms are agreed it should be a pretty quick transfer to process. Twine has been using the High-Performance Centre to undertake some of his off-season training ahead of the start of pre-season at the end of this month, whether that be for Bristol City or at Gawthorpe with Burnley.

The twenty-four year old is of course local to the area having grown up in Royal Wootton Bassett, just a forty-five minute drive away from where his family still live. However it could also be viewed as a signal of his intentions, providing the two Sky Bet Championship clubs can come to an agreement over his transfer fee.

The Clarets valued the play marker at £5 million in the January window, hence why City were only able to conclude a loan deal, but with Burnley now back in the Sky Bet Championship and Twine seemingly set on a move away from Turf Moor, that figure is likely to fall sharply. Twine has been a priority target for the Robins, even before the 2023/24 campaign finished, due to their need for a central playmaker, his familiarity with head coach Liam Manning and his system and his encouraging performances once he returned from injury. Manning is also keen to bring in a striker, with three options considered and a winger with a signing in that position close.

Bristol City successfully persuaded Burnley to divert Twine from a temporary stay at Hull City, where he had been mainly played on the left, to BS3 for Manning to grant him a central berth. He finished with two goals in ten appearances with his appearances limited by a thigh injury and following his stunning free-kick against Rotherham United, the Bristol City head coach, traditionally reluctant to engage in public transfer chat declared he would like to bring the Wiltshire-born midfielder back to Bristol.

The Clarets have been through a degree of tumult with relegation from the Premier League and the loss of manager Vincent Kompany to Bayern Munich with no permanent successor appointed. The expectation has been the identity of whoever takes over permanently at Turf Moor will decide whether Twine stays or goes, as the Swindon Town academy product still has two years left on his contract.

That was also the inference when Tinnion was asked about the midfielder last week during his interview on the Forever Bristol City Podcast earlier this month but the real delay appears to be Burnley’s desire to recoup as much of the £4m they originally invested in him as possible. Irrespective of who is named the new Clarets boss, whether it be Craig Bellamy in a permanent capacity, Frank Lampard, Scott Parker or anyone else. Scoot Twine’s wish for consistent first-team football means he will almost certainly leave Lancashire this summer, understandably Burnley’s mission is to maximise his value.
