Settle Cricket Club v Oswaldtwistle Cricket Club (Ribblesdale Senior League)
Settle Cricket Club arrived at Marshfield looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season in the Ribblesdale Senior League against Lancashire rivals Oswaldtwistle Cricket Club. The visitors won the toss and elected to bowl with their Sri Lankan professional bowler Merennage Akshu Prihan Fernando.
Settle had another strong performance as a number of players reached double figures, Fawad Alam top scored with 67, Tom Davidson (30), Jack Harrison (18), Sadran Ward (16) and Will Davidson (15) as Settle made 175 in 45 overs with the loss of 7 wickets.
Niall Heyes took the most wickets for the visitor with 3 for 69 runs whilst Matthew Cook took 2 for 23. Oswaldtwistle’s professional bowler Merennage Akshu Prihan Fernando proved a little expensive with just 1 wicket for 44 runs and Liam Hickson took the final wicket for 39 runs.
Settle came out after the tea break and destroyed Oswaldtwistle with some outstanding bowling from Alam, Ward and Whyte whilst the team was excellent in the field stopping the visitors from scoring and adding pressure onto the batsman.
After just six overs the visitors were 23 for 4 and this form continued through the team until captain Daniel Metcalf top scored with 18 runs built a last man partnership with Mike Groom that added 30 runs.
Oswaldtwistle ended the innings on 69 all out from just 22.5 overs, the result gives Settle 12 points and keeps them 5 points clear at the top of the Ribblesdale Senior League. Next week see’s Settle travel to Cherry Tree Cricket Club as they look to continue their winning start to the season.
