John Rooney Joins AFC Barrow
Guiseley AFC have this morning confirmed that midfielder John Rooney has joined AFC Barrow on a free transfer in order to continue playing in the Vanarama National League, Rooney signed for the Lions last summer and went on to make 43 appearances, scoring 8 goals for the Club.
The younger brother of DC United striker Wayne Rooney he started his career at Everton before turning professional with Macclesfield Town in 2008, he made 41 appearances before moving to America to play for the New York Red Bulls and Orlando City.
John then returned to the UK and linked up with Barnsley Football Club in 2012/13 but failed to make an impression at Oakwell and after one season he then moved onto Bury where he made just 3 appearances. A permanent move to Chester City followed where he stayed for 2 seasons making 128 appearance, scoring 25 goals.
Rooney, then joined Wrexham where he again spent two season making 33 appearances, scoring 11 goals before a loan move to Guiseley AFC which then turned permanent last summer.
