Blackburn Rovers 2 v 2 Burnley (U23 Development Friendly)
Blackburn Rovers U23’s held a Burnley U23 side which included several first team fringe players to a 2-2 draw at Brockhall this afternoon. Both Tony Mowbray and Sean Dyche watched the behind-closed-doors game which gave both managers the chance to cast an eye over their squad.
Whilst the Rovers side had a very youthful look to it, the Clarets included Charlie Taylor, Ben Gibson, Nakhi Wells & Matej Vydra in their line-up, whilst former Clarets midfielder David Jones who is currently training with the club also started the game.
Rovers started well and led in the 15th minute when full-back Andrew Jackson met a Jack Vale cross to head beyond Adam Legzdins and into the corner of the net. At the other end a Dvaid Jones’ free kick was well held by Joe Hilton, before the lively Jack Vale almost bagged a brilliant solo goal, but saw his effort bravely blocked by a Clarets defender.
Charlie Taylor then went close to an equaliser for the Clarets, before Jack Vale almost added a second for the home side as Adam Legzdins saved well from Jack Vale again to make the half-time score 1-0.
Burnley came out much stronger in the second-half and levelled things up with twenty minutes to go when Matej Vydra curled beyond Joe Hilton in to the net after cutting in from the left wing to make it 1-1.
Shortly afterwards the Rovers ‘keeper was unable to deal with a cross and Ben Gibson was on hand to turn the ball into an empty net to make 2-1 to the Clarets.
Rovers responded and went close to making it 2-2 when Matty Platt was denied by Legzdins, while Sam Barnes hit the bar. However with the final kick of the match the hosts did get the equaliser when Louis Annesley put in a cross which Mols turned in from close range to make the full-time score 2-2.
